Our big, gentle, giant of a man, affectionately known as “Buck”, left this world on, February 27, 2025, after a long and courageous fight with colon cancer, but eventually the cancer won. He gave his all and fought so hard. He walked a mile every day with the help of his walker. When the weather was good it was outside, but when the weather was bad, he was determined to keep walking, so he plotted out how many times up and down the halls of the apartment was a mile. He wanted a miracle, but in the end, the miracle came in the form of being released from the pain and suffering of his life. We know there was a great celebration with his parents, brother, and best friends to welcome him home.

Buck was born on June 3, 1958, to Norman and Marjean Hansen and raised on the family farm in Osgood, Idaho. He worked alongside his dad and brothers putting in many long hours of hard work, but also making very fond memories that were shared throughout his lifetime.

He married Beverly Carpenter, also of Osgood, and together they had two children, Jared and Melanie, who were his whole world. He and Bev were later divorced, but they co-parented their children into the fine adults they are today. Family was of upmost importance to him. Buck loved his kids more than life itself.

He attended Skyline High School after which he earned his associate’s degree in business and accounting at EITC in Idaho Falls. He worked at INEL for a time as technical support, and then at Wilcox & Sons potato warehouse in Thornton, Idaho, as their office manager.

In 1994, it seems that Buck and Angel were “guided” to meet and have been joined at the hip ever since despite the life challenges that were thrown at them.

In 1995, Buck was in a serious car accident on the Green Canyon Bridge near Tetonia where he sustained serious injuries, including the amputation of his leg. Since moving to the Teton Valley in 1997, he has been mostly retired due to those injuries with the exception of some part-time work at Royal Floor coverings in Victor, Idaho. He and his “Angel” lived, loved, and worked together for nearly 30 years on their little farm in Tetonia.

Throughout his life, Buck was instinctually and inherently kind. He was a gentle giant who never failed to lift up others with true selflessness and a true heart. He loved to make those around him laugh and went to great lengths to do so whenever possible. He was known for his sense of humor and always had a joke or a funny story to tell. Those who experienced his infectious laugh and his friendship are better people for it. He made people feel like they mattered . . . that he valued who they were.

Buck’s gentle soul led him to a love for music, inspiring him to teach himself the bass guitar and so enjoyed jamming with his buddies. He was the “mastermind” behind Angel’s very successful karaoke DJ business and supported her in every way, including technical support for their bookkeeping business, Buck N-A Bookkeeping. He came up with that clever name and it indeed generated some business.

Buck is survived by his loving wife, Robyn (aka Angel); and his children, Jared and Melanie (Steve) of Springville, UT; stepson, Bryson Thomas (Ariane); siblings, Susan Parkinson of Blackfoot, ID; Norman Doug (Rita) of Riggins, ID; Joe (Marnee) of Kennewick, WA; sisters-in-law, Sharon and Marsha (Nelson); and brother-in-law, Forest (Mona); step-grandchildren, Bryson, Hannah and James; also, two beautiful granddaughters, Kiersten and Chantelle; and a special step-granddaughter, Eleanor. He jokingly reminded his many nieces and nephews that he was, of course, their “favorite” uncle.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks to his hospice nurse, Sue Beard, who helped, supported and loved us through this difficult time. Also, Dr. Chad Horrocks who was both his doctor and his friend. Thanks to the doctors and nurses at Teton Cancer Center in Rexburg, Idaho. They always treated him with such dignity. Bucks’ final wishes were to be cremated, and his ashes spread by Angel in a private ceremony in his beloved Teton Mountains. A celebration of life for his immediate family will be announced at a later date. Though he may have been taken away from us too soon, his spirit will forever live on in the memories we cherish. Condolences may be sent to: angels@silverstar.com.

Buck, we love you. Saying goodbye was the hardest thing we ever had to do. Watch over us and stay near but go and have some fun soaring with the Eagles like you always dreamed of. Enjoy the rest from your physical struggle in life. Job well done. We will think about you every day until we meet again.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
