It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, brother, uncle, grandpa and most of all friend Michael Terrance Flanagan.

Mike to all that new him, passed away in his sleep January 8th 2024 at the age of 67 from health complications.

Mike was born in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada to Alywin “Sam” Flanagan and Joan Hyndman Flanagan. Mike was the 2nd of 4 boys and always had an adventurous spirit.

Mike moved to the States shortly after the tragic passing of his parents and youngest brother Tim. It was here he pursued a career in horse racing as a professional jockey and began his nomadic lifestyle that he’d be known for the rest of his life.

After retiring from racing he worked primarily in road construction where he developed a reputation for being the hardest worker at any site and an expert in all things aggregate.

Mike was a wonderful father who passed on his love of horses to his daughter Cassie, whom he supported throughout her high school rodeo career. Never missing a rodeo or practice in those 4 years and helping swap gear in-between events, he became affectionately known as the rodeo dad to all the other kids.

Mike has two grandsons that he adored. Rylen, who shares his love for golf and Cael that loves the loaders and excavators that grandpa worked with.

Mike lived on the road, for years taking his trailer with him to wherever the next job was. He made friends everywhere he went, famously being willing and able to talk to anyone anywhere and leaving, having made another friend for life. He was a member of the Fraternity of Eagles for over 40 years where he’d made countless friends at aeries all over the country.

Mike will be remembered for his generosity, kind spirit and sense of humor.

Mike is preceded in death by his father Alywin, mother Joan and brother Tim.

He is survived by his daughter Cassie (Dave), grandson’s Rylen and Cael, brother’s Dennis (Tina), and Pat (Kathy) and niece’s and nephew’s Tim, Avril, Tara and Aaron.

Memorial arrangements will be posted on his Facebook page.
