Raymond Edward Brininger, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away on October 7, 2026, at Idaho Falls Community Hospital following complications from pulmonary fibrosis.

Ray was born on July 21, 1937, in the countryside near Williamsburg, Pennsylvania, to William Edward Brininger and Mable Marie Brenneman. He was the eldest of nine children.

After graduating from high school in Pennsylvania, Ray enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served for 24½ years as a nuclear power operator and instructor. While stationed in Idaho Falls, Idaho, he met Edna Miller, and the two were married on September 8, 1959. Together, they raised seven children and built a life filled with love, laughter, and family.

Following his Navy career, Ray worked at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) before moving to Butte, Montana, where he worked as a supervisor at a test plant until his retirement.

Ray enjoyed bowling, golfing, and fly fishing, but he was perhaps best known for his wonderful sense of humor, his gift for storytelling, and his unforgettable laugh. He loved a good joke, wasn’t above a little mischievous teasing, and always seemed to have a story to share. Whether he was telling a funny story or playfully giving someone a hard time, his laughter was contagious and often just as entertaining as the story itself.

Above all else, Ray loved his family. Despite having a family that grew to span five generations, he made a point of knowing each person as an individual. He took a genuine interest in their hobbies, passions, and accomplishments, making everyone feel special and valued. His family was large, but his love and attention were never spread thin.

One of his favorite traditions was bringing grandchildren to stay with him and Grandma in Butte, Montana. For a week or two, they would be spoiled rotten, making memories that would last a lifetime. When their visit was over, Ray would drive back to Idaho, exchange one carload of grandchildren for another, and happily start the spoiling all over again. Those visits became treasured childhood memories and are just one example of the love and devotion Ray had for his family.

Ray’s generosity extended well beyond his family. He quietly supported numerous charities, preferring to make a difference in the lives of others without seeking attention or recognition. His kindness and generosity were simply part of who he was.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Edna Brininger; daughters: Monna (Donald) Casper, Mickey Clancy, Sharon Behner, and Debbie (Chico) Herrera; sons: Michael (Teresa) Brininger and Danny Brininger; son-in-law, Trinidad Cervantes; 29 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Becky, Penny, and Sue; and brother, Craig.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Dianne Cervantes; son-in-law, Bill Behner; granddaughter, Amber Hubbard; brothers: Bill Brininger, Alton Brininger, and Ronny Bunn; and sister, Millie Bunn.

Ray leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love, laughter, generosity, and family. His stories will continue to be told, his laughter will never be forgotten, and the countless lives he touched will carry a piece of him forward.

In accordance with Ray’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. Cremation is under the care of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls.

Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
