Reed Ragan
April 5th, 1935 - February 2nd, 2024
Reed Eugene Ragan, 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 2, 2024, at his home. He was under the care of his loving family and Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
Reed was born April 5, 1935, in Shelley, Idaho, to Raymond Kenneth Ragan and Melba Miller Ragan. He grew up and attended schools in Rigby, Idaho, after moving from Jackson, Wyoming. He graduated from University of Idaho with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, and later got his teaching certification from Idaho State University.
On June 7, 1963, he married MaryAnn Markowski in the Idaho Falls Temple. Reed and MaryAnn made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Reed worked as a teacher for 28 years, with the majority spent in Shelley as a 5th grade teacher.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was very active in the church, and served a mission in Canada, along with many different callings throughout his life. He spent many years taking care of his parents’ huge garden in Shelley, then continuing at his home. He was an avid reader, loved his scriptures, hunting, fishing, scenic car rides, collecting rocks, and most important, loved to joke and make people laugh.
Reed is survived by his wife, MaryAnn Ragan; daughter, Julie (Justin) Hegstrom of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Robert (Karol) Ragan of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Scott (Deidra) Ragan of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Rodney (Josephine) Ragan of Ammon, ID; sister, Margery (Lynn) Houdyshell of Meridian, ID; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Ragan; brother, Raymond Ragan; great-granddaughter, Ellsie Ragan; and grandson, Keaton Ragan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Brian Wood officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
