Richard “Dick” Coon
March 9th, 1935 - June 18th, 2023
Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father on June 18, 2023, at his Mesquite, Nevada, home.
Richard “Dick” Coon was born on March 9, 1935, to Isaac Warren Coon and Ida G. Wilcock in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Dick was very active in sports all through his schooling. He excelled in baseball, football, and basketball. In 2005, he and his basketball team, the Idaho Falls Tigers, were honored with Legends of The Game as State Champions with an unsurpassed 1953 record of 26-0. He was also a phenomenal hunter and fisherman, and always had a story to tell with his quick wit.
Dick is survived by his wife, Arlene Taylor Coon (whom he married in 1978 and later was sealed to in the St. George, Utah Temple); children, Linda Lucero, James Brian Coon, and Carol Gaye Taylor; stepchildren, Tracy, Mike, Shona, and Julie; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Brady.
A Celebration of Life and visitation will be held from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023, at The Brickyard Event Center, 1025 S. Ammon Road. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
