Ron Dumont
July 25th, 1948 - June 4th, 2025
Harold Ronnie Dumont, 76, of Irwin, passed away June 4, 2025, at the Gables Assisted Living Center of Idaho Falls. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
Ron was born July 25, 1948, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Harold Lewis Dumont and Bernice Winther Dumont. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1966. He loved playing sports, especially football. He also attended Ricks College.
At age 8, he started spending summers working for his grandparents on the Winther farm in Dehlin, Idaho, every year until he graduated from high school. He enjoyed family picnics with their big family and lots of hunting and fishing on that farm.
His Uncle Harold and Aunt Sharon Winther opened a snowmobile business. Ron started riding and racing snowmobiles and started winning. He raced on his own for a while, then was recruited by Monte’s bombardier where he worked traveling and racing as a team with Mike Cutler.
His beautiful daughter, Katie, was born in 1981 from a previous marriage, and soon after, they moved to Kalispell, Montana, where he worked at a family boat dealer.
He came back to Idaho Falls and worked in the snowmobile business again as a district sales manager for Ski-doo and then part owner of Starting Line Products.
On July 11, 1986, he married Teresa Merkley Nielsen in Idaho Falls. Ron and Teresa made their home in Idaho Falls and then Irwin when they retired. They had many fun years with family and friends.
He enjoyed snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, ATVs, and 4-wheelers. He was an excellent water skier and spent summers on the lakes skiing and fishing. He loved to hunt each fall with his brother, dad, and uncle. As he got older, he took up golf with his wife and friends.
Ron is survived by his wife, Teresa Dumont of Irwin, ID; daughter, Katie (Darell) Elletson of Columbia Falls, MT; stepson, Justin (Kerrie) Nielsen of Boise, ID; stepson, Trenton Nielsen of Idaho Falls, ID; grandchildren, Camille Oly Nielsen, Leidy Nielsen, Sophia Elletson, and Brody Elletson; sister, Carol (Robert) Walton of Beaver Dam, AZ; brother, Doug (Cathy) Dumont of Iona, ID; and sister, Trudy Horne (Al Sarisky) of Idaho Falls, ID.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson, Shawn Nielsen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, Ammon, ID. The family will visit with friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
