Obituary
Wilma Hatton
July 21st, 1938 - June 2nd, 2025
Wilma Lee Hatton, 86, passed away June 2, 2025, with her loved ones nearby.
Wilma was born July 21, 1938 in Bath County, Kentucky, to Dawson and Rebecca Hatton. She was one of six children Floretta, James, Delores, Vernon and Linda.
Wilma graduated from Lafayette High in Lexington, Kentucky, and attended the University of Kentucky until health issues made her drop out. After several surgeries, Wilma worked at IBM; the Kentucky village for delinquent boys and girls. Wilma also completed a Practical Nursing Course. Wilma volunteered for VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America,) which brought her out west to Utah with the Juvenile Court under Richard Lindsay.
In 1972, Wilma moved to Idaho, where she worked in Customer Service for the Valley Bank. Wilma started up her own “Home Help Agency” taking care of the Elderly in their own homes. She spent 22 years as the Manager of Brenchly Apartments (subsidized housing for the elderly and disabled).
Wilma had many hobbies that she enjoyed. Scrapbooking began with her Sisters as they would go door to door collecting the magazines from their neighbors to use the pictures or words out of them for their scrapbooks. Wilma has made many scrapbooks over the years for family members to treasure and enjoy. Wilma loved to go thrifting and to garage sales where she would find some mighty fine treasures for herself. The favorite was shopping at DI (Deseret Industry) a second-hand store where she would shop year-round, not for herself of course but for the right gift to give to her family members. It was a “Wilma Tradition” to find the right gift to give to each individual; they all looked forward to their DI gift bag, which was presented in a garbage bag or a plastic shopping bag. Seeing what Wilma came with for each person showed how well she knew each one. Any function or event, Wilma would bring her camera along to take pictures as others enjoyed themselves, which she used in the scrapbooks she made.
Times Wilma would look forward to was Steelhead Fishing on the Salmon River. Camping for the summer in Salmon and enjoying natures beauty. She was the score keeper and supplied endless amounts of Bubble Gum for the Sutton Women’s Softball Team.
Wilma never married or had any children of her own, but was blessed in her life to have the Hatton, Armstrong, Flake and Couch Families in Kentucky, the Orr, Greene, Ward, Wilcox, and Griffel Families in Idaho to love. Having all these people in her life to help and love has eased the pain of not having a family of her own.
I have lived next door to my lifelong friend Ada Greene in Archer, Idaho. She and her children have treated me as one of their own… Thank you Ada, Shelly (Neal Ward), Bryant (Michelle Greene), Wendy (Gary Wilcox), Julie (Richard Griffel) and your children.
The family would like to thank Homestead Home Health and Hospice for the love and care given to Wilma in her final days.
Funeral Service will be held at Flamm Funeral Home on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 11:00 am
