(SHELLEY) – A Shelley man is one of several Japanese-American veterans being honored in Washington D.C. this week. 86-year-old Agie (pronounced Ay-Jee) Harada was part of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II. Local News 8 reports that veterans from the unit are being recognized with the Congressional Gold Medal for their outstanding service. Harada says he won’t be able to attend the ceremony on Wednesday, but a fellow veteran from Blackfoot will. The 442nd is the most highly decorated military unit in U.S. history.
