Iran Warns US It Will Block Oil Shipments: Report
Published at(WASHINGTON) — A top Iranian official issued a strong warning to the United States Tuesday, saying Iran will block all oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz if the U.S. follows through with legislation that would impose economic sanctions on the country.
“If they impose sanctions on Iran’s oil exports, then even one drop of oil cannot flow from the Strait of Hormuz,” said Iran’s vice president Mohammad-Reza Rahimi, according to Iran’s official news agency.
The New York Times reports Rahimi delivered the message as President Obama prepares to sign off on legislation that would limit the country’s oil revenue in an effort to stop it from developing a nuclear weapons program.
A White House spokesperson told the Times it had no comment on the threat.
