Colts Fire Head Coach Jim Caldwell
Published at(INDIANAPOLIS) — The Indianapolis Colts fired head coach Jim Caldwell Tuesday after finishing the year with a 2-14 record.
The 57-year-old Caldwell did not have the services of 11-time Pro Bowl quarterback Peyton Manning, who missed the entire season recovering from neck surgery. During his three seasons roaming the sidelines in Indianapolis, Caldwell compiled a record of 26-22, including an appearance in Super Bowl 44, in which they lost to the New Orleans Saints, 31-17.
“This was a difficult decision,” Colts owner Jim Irsay said. “It was based on the feeling that this was a direction the franchise needed to go. I wanted to make sure we took all the time we needed to make sure it was the right decision.”
The Colts own the overall number-one pick in April’s NFL Draft.
