(WASHINGTON) — It took 4 hours and 34 minutes to decide, but in the end it was the New Yorkers who came out on top. Rangers winger Marian Gaborik scored with 5:39 left in the third overtime as the Rangers outlasted the Washington Capitals, 2-1, giving them a 2-1 lead in their second round playoff series.
The goal was Gaborik’s first in eight games.
“It’s been a while,” Gaborik said. “It feels great to contribute and to get on the board. Especially in this type of game.”
The win also broke the Rangers’ seven game playoff overtime losing streak.
The Rangers Henrik Lundqvist had 45 saves in the win, while the Capitals Braden Holtby had 47 saves in the loss.
Game 4 takes place at 12:30 PM ET Saturday in Washington.
