Lackey left the mound during the fifth inning during his start Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. An MRI revealed no structural damage to Lackey’s arm, which is a good sign that he’ll be able to recover from the injury.

Red Sox manager John Farrell has already announced that Lackey will miss his next scheduled start.

The team is being cautious with Lackey as he is coming off Tommy John Surgery.

“A couple of days ago was the first time he’s pitched with that kind of intensity in probably two years, and it’s not uncommon that you’re going to feel some soreness,” Farrell said.

Since joining the Red Sox in 2010, Lackey’s time with the team has been inconsistent at best. He is 26-24 with a 5.24 ERA.

He is in the third year of a five-year, $82.5 million contract.
