Orioles 3B Machado has Ligament Sprain

Christian Petersen/Getty Images(BALTIMORE) — Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado had an MRI Tuesday revealing a ligament sprain in his right knee.
The 21-year-old Machado suffered the injury while taking a swing in the team’s 11-3 loss against the New York Yankees Monday night. After Machado took the swing, he fell to the ground grabbing his knee and had to be helped off the field.
The Orioles still haven’t determined whether Machado will go on the disabled list.
“I’m not going to handicap it,” Orioles skipper Buck Showalter said. “I don’t know yet, but just because someone goes on the DL doesn’t mean that he’s not going to play again this year, or he’s going to have surgery or this and that.”
This is the second time Machado suffered an injury to a knee while in the major leagues. In October 2013, Machado had reconstructive surgery on his left knee. That procedure caused the youngster to start this season on the DL.
In 82 games this season, Machado is hitting .278 with 12 home runs, 32 RBIs and a .324 on-base percentage.
