The Eagles honored former lacrosse player Welles Crowther, who passed away in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, by wearing red bandanas and toppling the Trojans, 37-31, at home.

“The red bandanna game meant a lot. We talked a lot about Welles Crowther; we talked a lot about who he was and what it takes to be a BC man,” said head coach Steve Addazio. “Our guys dug deep on this. This was a great win.”

The Trojans (2-1) jumped out to a 10-0 lead after one quarter and eventually led 17-6 just one minute into the second. However, the Eagles (2-1) scored the next 24 points, pounding out multiple big plays on the ground. Sherman Alston’s 54-yard run late in the half gave Boston College a 20-17 halftime advantage.

Senior quarterback Tyler Murphy rushed for 191 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth that sealed the deal. In total, Boston College rushed for 452 yards against the Trojans. It was the first time since 2002, and the fifth time overall, that the Eagles beat a top-10 opponent while being unranked themselves.
