The show was scheduled for Thursday night at Chaifetz Arena, but on Wednesday a message to his fans appeared on his website.

“Out of respect for Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon’s declaration declaring a state of emergency in Missouri, Hunter Hayes’ Thursday, November 20 show at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis has been cancelled,” it read.

It continued, “Tickets will be reimbursed at the point of purchase. At this time, all other University related events at Saint Louis University this week are planned to go on as scheduled. Hunter assures his fans that he will be back to St. Louis in 2015.”

Hayes, 23, also tweeted, “I am so beyond bummed that our show had to be canceled. St Louis fans, your shows are always epic. We miss you and cannot wait to come back!”

Nixon declared a state of emergency on Monday and activated the National Guard.

The move was made with the impending grand jury decision about whether Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson will be charged in the Aug. 9 shooting and death of Michael Brown.
