Prosecutors Can Appeal Pistorius Culpable Homicide Conviction
Published at(JOHANNESBURG) — A South African judge ruled Wednesday that prosecutors could appeal the culpable homicide ruling against Oscar Pistorius.
The double-amputee former Olympian was convicted of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, when he fatally shot her through a bathroom door last February.
The judge ruled that Pistorius could be re-tried for murder after he was sentenced to a five year prison term for the lesser charge of culpable homicide.
The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein will hear the case as to whether Pistorius could have foreseen killing someone when shooting through the door.
If convicted of murder, Pistorius could face a minimum of 15 years in prison.
