Miami Dolphins Dismiss Head Coach Joe Philbin
Published at | Updated at(MIAMI) — After getting off to a 1-3 start this season, the Miami Dolphins announced on Monday that it has dismissed its head coach, Joe Philbin.
“This was a tough decision for me to make knowing how tirelessly Joe worked in his four years here to make this a winning team. He is a man of the highest character and integrity that I developed a close personal relationship with,” the team’s owner, Stephen Ross, said in a statement.
“I am extremely disappointed with how we have started the season, but I feel confident that we can improve quickly with the talent we have on our roster,” he continued.
Philbin released a statement of his own, thanking Ross, the players and staff, and the fans.
“This is a tremendous organization from top to bottom that has a talented and dedicated staff,” he said.
“It is my hope that the 2015 Miami Dolphins achieve great success both on and off the field,” Philbin added.
While Ross said an interim coach would be announced soon, sources tell ESPN that Dan Campbell, the tight ends coach for the team, has been chosen for the position.
