Traffic restrictions set for 17th Street and 25th East tonight

The following is a news release from the city of Idaho Falls.

IDAHO FALLS — Traffic will be restricted tonight at the intersection of 25th East (Hitt Road) and 17th Street as Rocky Mountain Power relocates power poles in advance of an intersection-improvement project.

From 9 pm Thursday until 6 am Friday, Oct. 7, the east leg of the intersection will be closed. Traffic will be able to travel through the intersection on 25th East and access 17th Street to the west, but traffic will not be able to access 17th Street to the east of the intersection.

Please use caution and extend courtesy to workers and other drivers when traveling through the work zones.

Relocation of the power poles is the first step in a project to improve the intersection, one of the busiest and most dangerous in the area. The $2.6 million project is a collaborative effort between the cities of Idaho Falls and Ammon that calls for widening the roadway to accommodate additional turn lanes on all approaches. Construction on the roadway is set to begin in spring 2017 and be completed in late summer.
