NFL Injury Update: Foles Ruled Out, Murray Has Surgery

NFL Injury Update: Foles Ruled Out, Murray Has Surgery

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- In the hotly-contested NFC East, both the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles got injury updates on star players Monday. The immediate future of both DeMarco Murray and Nick Foles are up in the air as the two teams head into the final two weeks of the year.

Murray, who fractured his left hand in Sunday's win over Philadelphia, had surgery Monday to repair the break. The Cowboys have not yet ruled the running back out for this weekend's matchup with Indianapolis.

"The biggest question we have to ask ourselves is, is he functional to do his job?" said head coach Jason Garrett. "Can he hold the football? Can he carry it under duress? Can he block? Can he do the things necessary to play the position?"

The NFL's leading rusher, Murray has carried the ball 351 times for 1,687 yards. He is 87 yards shy of eclipsing Emmitt Smith's franchise record of 1,773 yards set in 1995.

The Eagles announced Monday that quarterback Nick Foles is not yet ready to return to the field.

Head coach Chip Kelly says the broken collarbone is healing, but not enough to handle football contact.

"The bone is not healed," Kelly added. "He'll start throwing a little bit more, but he's out for right now. He's not cleared and will not play this week. Until he gets fully healed, he's not going to be able to play with it. We think he'll be able to throw a little more this week, but we can't have anyone near him with contact."

Foles has missed the last six games in which Philadelphia has gone 3-3 with Mark Sanchez at the helm. In the previous eight games he started, Foles threw 13 touchdowns and racked up 1,752 yards. Philadelphia is set to visit Washington on Saturday.

Eagles Route the Cowboys, 33-10

Eagles Route the Cowboys, 33-10

Rob Carr via Getty Images(ARLINGTON, Texas) -- In a game between two of the top teams in the NFC East, the Philadelphia Eagles proved to be better on Thanksgiving as they easily defeated the Dallas Cowboys 33-10.

The Eagles struck first in the game as quarterback Mark Sanchez commanded the team to a 7-0 in their first possession in furious fashion, and never looked back.

Sanchez completed 20 of 29 passes for 217 yards and one touchdown through the air while adding another on the ground. It was his first game of the season without a turnover.

Eagles running back LeSean McCoy had arguably his best game of the season on Thursday, as he carried the ball 25 times for 159 yards and a touchdown.

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and running back DeMarco Murray each failed to get into a rhythm during the game. Romo completed 18 of 29 yards for 199 yards and two interceptions. He snapped his streak of 38-straight games with at least one TD pass.

Murray was held to a season-low 73 yards.

With the win, the Eagles now sit at 9-3 on the season and hold sole possession of first place in the NFC East over the Cowboys who fell to 8-4 with the loss.

Murray Breaks Record as Cowboys Beat Giants 31-21

Murray Breaks Record as Cowboys Beat Giants 31-21

NFL via Getty Images(DALLAS) -- DeMarco Murray continues to lead the charge as he rushed for his seventh straight 100-yard game.

In doing so, Murray broke Jim Brown's 56-year-old record of starting a season with six straight 100-yard games.

The Cowboys continue to showcase a balanced offense that they have lacked in recent years.

Tony Romo tossed three touchdowns on 279 yards passing, completing 17 of 23 passes. Second-year tight end Gavin Escobar reeled in two of Romo's touchdown passes. Dez Bryant is still a man on fire as he racked up 151 yards receiving.

After a scare in the second quarter in which Murray appeared to injure his ankle, he finished the day with 128 yards and one touchdown.

Eli Manning put forth a valiant effort but it would not be enough to outduel Dallas.  Manning threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Rookie receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. continues to live up to his first round draft status as he hauled in two of Manning's touchdowns.

The Dallas Cowboys are now at 6-1 and host the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football next week.

Al Messerschmidt/Getty Images(SEATTLE) -- The Dallas Cowboys (5-1) knocked off the defending champion Seattle Seahawks (3-2) in front of the 12th man in Seattle on Sunday.

Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray's 15-yard rushing touchdown with 3:16 left in the fourth quarter gave his team a 26-23 lead and Dan Bailey's field goal late pushed the lead to seven, which set the stage for Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

Wilson's last throw intended for Luke Wilson was picked off by Rolando McClain to put the Cowboys' win in the books.

Tony Romo passed for 250 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and Murray rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown in the victory.

The Cowboys defense held Wilson and the Seahawks offense to 80 rushing yards, 126 passing yards, and a Wilson rushing touchdown.

Cowboys Cruise Past New Orleans

Cowboys Cruise Past New Orleans

Tom Pennington/Getty Images(ARLINGTON, Texas) -- Tony Romo threw for three touchdown passes while DeMarco Murray rushed for two more as the Dallas Cowboys dominated New Orleans, winning 38-17 on Sunday night. The Cowboys (3-1) led 24-0 at halftime and maintained their double-digit lead throughout.

"That was very important for us to see what kind of team we were going to be," said Romo who ended his day with 262 passing yards as well. "We kind of knew but it's nice to go against a team...that is still a really good football team."

Dallas began the scoring when Romo found Terrance Williams from six yards out in the first quarter. The two later connected with 19 seconds left in the half, upping the advantage to 24-0. While Romo was lighting it up in the air, Murray led a dominant rushing attack on the ground. The running back totalled 149 yards, his fourth 100-yard game of the year, as the Cowboys racked up 445 yards of total offense.

Meanwhile, the Saints (1-3) offense was held in check all night. Quarterback Drew Brees threw for 340 yards but was unable to lead a scoring drive until the third quarter when New Orleans settled for a Shayne Graham field goal. They would close the gap to 31-17, scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but Dallas' defense held strong and prevented any thought of a comeback.
