Report: QB Peyton Manning Nearing a Pay Cut with Broncos

Report: QB Peyton Manning Nearing a Pay Cut with Broncos Thinkstock(DENVER) -- Quarterback Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos are closing in on an agreement which will see the 14-time Pro Bowler take a $4 million pay cut for the 2015 season, according to ESPN.  The deal will allow the Broncos more flexibility when the free agency market opens on Tuesday. The 38-year-old Manning will earn a base salary of $15 million in 2015, which is down from the $19 million he was set to earn. In 16 games last season under center for Denver, he passed for 4,792 yards with 39 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He holds the NFL record for most career passing touchdowns, with 530. Report: Broncos Will Franchise Tag Demaryius Thomas

Report: Broncos Will Franchise Tag Demaryius Thomas Dustin Bradford/Getty Images(DENVER, Co.) -- The Denver Broncos will not allow their leading receiver of the past three seasons to see the light of free agency. The Broncos are expected to use the franchise tag on Demaryius Thomas, according to the Denver Post. Furthermore, the team will use the "nonexclusive" tag, which means Thomas is free to negotiate with other teams, but the Broncos can match any offer or the signing team must compensate Denver with two first-round picks. Under the franchise tag, Thomas is expected to be paid $12.797 million. Thomas had been receiving an average of $2.8 million per year under his rookie contract. Thomas, 27, has caught at least 92 passes each of the last three seasons while totaling at least 1,400 yards through the air. He has also posted double-digit touchdowns in all three years. Last season, he set the Bronco's single-season record with 1,619 yards receiving. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Report: Wes Welker Considering Retirement

Report: Wes Welker Considering Retirement Hyoung Chang/Denver Post (DENVER, Co.) -- After twelve years of professional football, Wes Welker is considering walking away from the game. The Denver Broncos wide receiver is undecided about his future after a season in which he suffered his latest concussion and saw a significant decline in his on-field production, according to Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo. Broncos Quarterback Peyton Manning still Evaluating his Future

Broncos Quarterback Peyton Manning still Evaluating his Future Justin Edmonds/Getty Images(PHOENIX) -- Even at age 38, Peyton Manning is still one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but the Denver Broncos don't know if he'll be lining up behind center next season. Manning says he's still deciding if he wants to come back and play in 2015 or not. Even though Manning was rated among one of the best at his position in 2014, he is not the same player he once was, and even dealt with injuries throughout the season. "I haven't made a decision yet," Manning said. "I still want to take some time to evaluate some things, to talk to some people. Obviously the Broncos have been quite busy hiring a staff, I have had some dialogue with Coach (Gary) Kubiak and did have a chance (to) see him in person. "I'm not interested in making this a lingering thing, I'd like to make a decision soon. But at the same time, you know, both Coach (Kubiak), (Broncos CEO) Joe (Ellis) and John (Elway) have instructed me to take some time, so I'm kind of following their orders." This past season, Manning threw for 4,727 yards and threw 39 touchdowns. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Source: Broncos to Hire Gary Kubiak as Head Coach

Source: Broncos to Hire Gary Kubiak as Head Coach Bob Levey/Getty Images(DENVER, Co.) -- The Denver Broncos have found their replacement for John Fox. Gary Kubiak, former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator and Houston Texans head coach, has agreed to a four-year deal with the Denver Broncos, according to the NFL Network's Ian Rappaport. The team is expected to announce the hiring at a press conference Tuesday. The Denver Post first reported the story. Kubiak, 53, was the backup quarterback to team president John Elway from 1983 to 1991 with the Broncos. The two have a close relationship, and Elway expects Kubiak to implement a similar offensive style that relies on a strong zone running game, which helped the Broncos win their two Super Bowls in 1998 and 1999.  While head coach of the Houston Texans, Kubiak amassed a record of 61-64, but led the team to their first two playoff victories and two seasons of 10-plus wins.  Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. Andrew Luck: Broncos Present ‘a lot of Challenges’ Joe Robbins/Getty Images(INDIANAPOLIS) -- The Indianapolis Colts' trip to the AFC Championship game will have to go through Denver on Sunday in the divisional round. It's the third showdown between Colts quarterback Andrew Luck and former Colt, now Bronco, Peyton Manning. Luck said this week that the game isn't about their matchup, but rather him facing their defense. In speaking about the defense he'll be facing, Luck said there's "a lot of challenges, [it's] hard to say the biggest one. I think obviously [Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware] stand out and their d-line is very good." "I think our offensive line is up for that challenge," Luck continued. "[There's a] bunch of good players all over the field." Manning and the Broncos lost to Luck in their first game 39-33 last season and bounced back this year with a 31-24 win on Sept. 7. Bengals Take Down Broncos, 37-28

Bengals Take Down Broncos, 37-28 Scott Boehm/Getty Images(CINCINNATI) -- The Cincinnati Bengals heard all week about their struggles in primetime games in recent years, but they atoned themselves after defeating the Denver Broncos 37-28 on Monday Night Football. Rookie running back Jeremy Hill dominated for the Bengals once again. He ran for 147 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, putting him over the 1,000 yard mark on the season. He's the 3rd rookie in NFL history with four games of at least 140 yards rushing. With the win, the Bengals clinched a playoff berth for the fourth consecutive season, a franchise record. "I know a lot of guys are never fortunate enough to make the playoffs," said Hill. "In college, I wanted to play for a national championship but never got the chance." Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning struggled on Monday night. While he did throw for 311 yards and two touchdowns, he threw a season-high four interceptions, including a pick-six to cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick with under three minutes to go in the fourth quarter. With the loss, the New England Patriots clinched the top record in the AFC. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Manning Throws Four Picks As Bengals Win Monday Night Clash

Manning Throws Four Picks As Bengals Win Monday Night Clash Scott Boehm/Getty Images(DENVER, Co.) -- The Cincinnati Bengals locked up a playoff spot for the fourth straight season with a 37-28 victory over the Denver Broncos Monday night. With four interceptions off Peyton Manning, including a back-breaking pick-six by Cincinnati cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, the Bengals (10-4-1) defense also set up an opportunity to win the AFC North title next week when the team will trade blows with the Pittsburg Steelers. Manning was clearly rattled during the game, as the normally mechanical quarterback looked uncomfortable in the pocket and did not set his feet on his throws.  "Find a way to learn from this and correct the mistakes," Manning said, clearly bothered by his performance. "Find a way to get better next week and try to get a win against a division team." The Bengals offense would have seemingly suffered a major setback when superstar wide out, A.J. Green, took a blow to the arm after an Andy Dalton interception and was ineffective the rest of the game. That was not the case as rookie running back Jeremy Hill pounded the rock 22 times for 147 yards, highlighted by an 85 yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Dalton utilized his other weapons, as he connected with tight end Jermaine Gresham for a score in the second and later found running back Giovani Bernard for a 22-yard touchdown in the third quarter that would give the Bengals a 27-14 lead. The loss for the Broncos (11-4) enabled the Patriots to lock up the top spot in the AFC and guaranteed New England home field advantage throughout the playoffs.  Denver faces Oakland in the regular season finale with the opportunity to lock up the No. 2 seed. "But it's something you've got to do."Greg Zuerlein kicked five field goals, including two from over 50 yards, and the Rams' defense picked off Peyton Manning twice as the Broncos lose for only the third time this season."We didn't execute very well and I just think I didn't play very well," Manning said. "No excuses. I have to play better and we have to score more points than seven."Denver (7-3) attempted to get into the game before halftime when Manning threw a 42-yard touchdown to Emmanuel Sanders, moving the Broncos within 6 points. That was the last time Manning would find the end zone, as his streak of 15 consecutive games with at least two touchdown passes was snapped.Denver did have some unfortunate luck as well. The Broncos lost Julius Thomas (ankle), Montee Ball (groin) and Sanders (concussion) to injuries.Rams running back Tre Mason had 29 carries for 113 yards in the win. Peyton Manning: It Won’t Be Easy in St. Louis

Peyton Manning: It Won’t Be Easy in St. Louis Justin Edmonds/Getty Images(DENVER) -- The Denver Broncos will travel to St. Louis on Sunday to take on the Rams. Quarterback Peyton Manning is well aware of the Rams defense. "Their front has been active all season long in my opinion," Manning said. "They got really good players, a lot of first round draft choices. That's where it starts for any defense, we've got to be able to control those guys somehow and that falls on everybody." Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders realizes that the Rams are hot right now. "You can't take these guys lightly. Their last three games they faced San Francisco, Seattle, Arizona, and they played those guys really well," Sanders said. "This is a good football team that we're facing with a great defensive line and we're playing them at home, we definitely have to bring our A-game." Denver comes into the game at 7-2 and is 2-2 on the road this year. The Rams (3-6) announced this week that Shaun Hill will be the starting quarterback. Manning Tosses Five TDs, Broncos Stomp Raiders

Manning Tosses Five TDs, Broncos Stomp Raiders Justin Edmonds/Getty Images(OAKLAND, Calif.) -- After a disappointing loss to New England last week, the Denver Broncos righted the ship with a 41-17 trouncing over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Peyton Manning tossed five touchdowns for the Broncos (7-2) while the defense held Oakland (0-9) to less than 250 total yards of offense. The game did not start off that well for Manning and the Broncos. A pair of early interceptions saw Denver trailing 10-6 with 11 minutes to play in the second quarter. That all changed when C.J. Anderson caught a screen pass and scampered 51 yards for a touchdown, giving Denver a 13-10 advantage. That scoring play started a string of five touchdown passes on five possessions for Manning, turning a brief upset scare into another rout. The Raiders were held scoreless for almost the entire second half, scoring a garbage touchdown with less than a minute remaining in regulation. It was the ninth time in Manning's career that he threw for at least five touchdowns, breaking a tie with Drew Brees for the most in NFL history. The 38-year-old also extended his own league mark of most consecutive games with at least two touchdown passes to 15 games. Both Julius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders each caught a pair of touchdowns in the win. Derek Carr threw two touchdowns in the loss, but also threw a pair of interceptions. "Well, I don't usually stink, but I stunk today," Manning said. "I don't make any excuses." Manning Surpasses Favre in Broncos Victory

Manning Surpasses Favre in Broncos Victory Justin Edmonds/Getty Images(DENVER) -- Once again, Peyton Manning finds himself in the record books. The Denver Broncos quarterback threw four touchdowns in Sunday night's 42-17 win over San Francisco, giving him 510 career touchdown passes and surpassing Brett Favre's NFL record of 508. "It is quite an honor," Manning said. "I do have great appreciation for quarterbacks who played this game throughout the years. It's very humbling, has taken a lot of hard work, a lot of people helped me get to this point." The record-breaking pass came late in the second quarter on an eight-yard strike to Demaryius Thomas that put the Broncos (5-1) up 21-3 over the 49ers (4-3). Upon setting the mark, Manning's teammates had a little fun with the 38-year old, playing keep-away with the momento before eventually congratulating their quarterback. "I can't believe they actually did it," chided Manning. "They sort of joked about it during the week. I'm a little bit hurt by it. The fact that they thought they could do it." It took just 246 career games for Manning to break the record set by Favre in 302 career games. The 16-year veteran has thrown 110 touchdown passes in his two-plus years with the Broncos, whom he signed with in 2012 following neck surgery that threatened his career.
