Titans Release Safety Bernard Pollard

Titans Release Safety Bernard Pollard NFL via Getty Images(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) -- Coming off an injury-riddled 2015 season, the Tennessee Titans have released veteran safety Bernard Pollard. "Nashville it's been so much fun. Thank you to all the fans and people I've been blessed meet. Great city, fans and food! #31 is out" Pollard tweeted. Pollard told The Tennessean that he asked the team to release him, and his request was granted. "I am a little ticked off to be honest because we didn't do as well as anyone wanted," Pollard told the newspaper. "I wish we could have won more games and made the playoffs. When I came here, I wanted to be a part of a turnaround, so it is a letdown. But I don't have that much time left, and for the time I do have left, I want to go out with a bang." The 30-year-old Pollard suffered an Achilles injury during the fifth game of the season in 2014, and missed the remainder of the season. He spent two seasons in all in Nashville. A nine-year veteran, Pollard has played for the Chiefs, Texans, Ravens, and Titans during his career. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Colts Want to Build Momentum into the Playoffs Joe Robbins/Getty Images(INDIANAPOLIS) -- The Indianapolis Colts are 4-3 on the road this year and would like to generate some steam against the Titans on Sunday as they head into the playoffs. Indianapolis has already clinched their division, but is coming off a 42-7 beating by the Cowboys last weekend. "We want to go out and win," Colts quarterback Andrew Luck said.  "No matter what's at stake, we want to go out and play well, that's a priority." The Titans have dropped their last nine in a row and are 1-6 at home this year. "Nobody is giving up," Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst said this week.  "You can see how hard we fight until the very end, and that locker room expects to win (Sunday). That's the way we've been all year and we just have not been able to put it all together yet." Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Mettenberger To Start For Struggling Titans

Mettenberger To Start For Struggling Titans Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images(NASHVILLE, TN) -- A new era is likely beginning in Tennessee, as the Titans have announced rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger will start this Sunday against the Houston Texans. Mettenberger, a sixth-round pick out of LSU, will replace struggling starter Jake Locker.  Locker had missed the previous two games with a thumb injury and appeared ready to return, but head coach Ken Whisenhunt had other ideas. "We're going with Zach and we're going to stay with Zach," Whisenhunt said. The Titans have had trouble scoring points this season. They are averaging 17.3 points per game, ranking 28th in the NFL. They rank 27th with 320.3 yards per game. ''No question he's a talented, young player, and maybe it'll give us a spark,'' Whisenhunt said. ''Offensively, we haven't exactly been lighting it up, so that's part of it in consideration.'' This will likely be the end of Locker's career as a Titan.  Locker was the first-round pick of the Titans in 2011. Struggling through injuries and inconsistent play, Locker never quite reached the expectations that had him once projected to be the first overall pick in the 2010 draft. Locker will be a free agent at the end of the season after the Titans declined his 2015 option. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Titans Safety Bernard Pollard Out of the Season

Titans Safety Bernard Pollard Out of the Season NFL via Getty Images(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) -- The Tennessee Titans defense has taken a big blow as starting safety Bernard Pollard will miss the remainder of the season after rupturing his right Achilles tendon on Sunday. Pollard suffered the injury with just 1:09 left in the game when Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer threw what would wind up being the game-deciding play. "Bernard has been a good leader and a good player for us," Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "That happens in this game. It's unfortunate. We'll certainly hope he stays involved with our team, which I think is an important piece of it. But I know how disappointed he was [Sunday] night, as we all are." The 29-year-old Pollard is in his ninth NFL season, and second with the Titans. He led the team in tackles last season with 99, and signed a multi-year deal with the team during the offseason. This will be the first time Pollard has been placed on injured reserve during his career. The Titans have the 26th overall rated defense in the NFL this season. Andy Dalton, Bengals Look to Start 3-0

Andy Dalton, Bengals Look to Start 3-0 Andy Lyons/Getty Images(CINCINNATI) -- The Cincinnati Bengals are looking to go 3-0 for the first time since 2006 when they host the Tennessee Titans (1-1) on Sunday. Cincinnati has a ten-game win streak at home headed into Sunday. Quarterback Andy Dalton is well aware of the Titans defense. "They do a good job with different looks," Dalton said of the Titans defense.  "We have to be sharp mentally to handle what they're going to throw at us." Dalton hasn't thrown an interception or been sacked yet this year and credited the hard work of his offensive line. "It's been a thing that we've really prided ourselves on," Dalton said.  "It's one of our top goals, win the game, then no turnovers and then no sacks.  We've done a good job of that obviously, so we've got to keep that going." The Bengals will have a bye following their game against Tennessee on Sunday and will play the Patriots in week 5. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Titans Reward Jurrell Casey with Contract Extension

Titans Reward Jurrell Casey with Contract Extension National Football League(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) -- After a breakout season in 2013, the Tennessee Titans have rewarded defensive lineman Jurrell Casey with a four-year extension. ESPN reports Casey's deal will pay him $36 million over those four years, with $20.5 million guaranteed. "We are excited to come to an agreement on an extension with Jurrell," Titans general manager Ruston Webster said in a statement. "This is something Jurrell has earned not only with his play on the field but his work ethic as well. We appreciate Jurrell's professionalism through this process and look forward to many good years to come." Even though the team has moved from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4, the team has assured Casey he will still be able to play like he's used to at the pro level. Casey is entering his fourth season with the Titans after the team selected him in the third round back in 2011. After accumulating 5.5 sacks his first two seasons, Casey exploded for 10.5 sacks in 2013 to go along with 55 total tackles. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Graham Penalized, Scolded for Touchdown Dunks

Graham Penalized, Scolded for Touchdown Dunks Chris Graythen/Getty Images(NEW ORLEANS) -- It didn't take long for Jimmy Graham to violate the rule many feel was put in place because of him. Following both of his touchdown receptions in Friday's 31-24 preseason win over Tennessee, Graham proceeded to dunk the football through the goalposts and was penalized 15 yards for it. The second celebration drew the ire of head coach Sean Payton, who tracked his tight end down on the sideline to scold him. In total, the Saints committed 22 penalties throughout the game. Graham declined interviews as he left the locker room while Payton would not directly comment on the incidents. The celebration of "dunking" a ball through the goalposts was lumped in with other taunting penalties where the ball is used as a "prop". Many have referred to the rule chance as the "Jimmy Graham rule". "I understand Jimmy's frustration with that rule change. I understand what he's doing," said offensive tackle and team captain Zach Strief.  "And yet it's something, look, if this is a regular-season game, Jimmy's not dunking over the goalpost. Coach Payton was completely, I think, correct to jump on him. Any of us, I think would expect it. New Orleans was once again without quarterback Drew Brees who sat with an oblique strain. He is expected to be 100% healthy come the regular season. Wide receiver Marques Colston was also not dressed for action, but for an undisclosed reason. Vince Young Announces Retirement Jay Drowns/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- He has not played since 2011, but Vince Young announced his retirement from the NFL on Saturday. Young played parts of six seasons with the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles. Young was the third overall pick in 2006 by the Titans and was named Rookie of the Year, starting immediately. The former Texas Longhorn was also selected to the Pro Bowl in both 2006 and 2009. The 31-year-old threw for 8,964 yards and 46 touchdowns during his career. After not playing in 2013, Young was cut by the Green Bay Packers and was later signed by the Cleveland Browns May 1. Cleveland also signed Tyler Thigpen that day before releasing Young after they drafted Johnny Manziel.  Althought he signed a rookie contract that guaranteed him just under $27 million, Young suffered from financial issues his entire career and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year.  Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
