Tax Tip: Where’s My Refund?

GETTY 33114 TaxRefund? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1396270056749cabania/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — More than 109 million Americans received refunds last year — and those refunds averaged $2,744. For some people, that’s the biggest check they’ll get all year, so it’s no wonder they eagerly wait for any word on that refund.

“You can easily check that by going online to IRS.gov and clicking the link that says ‘Where’s My Refund?'” says Eric Smith with the Internal Revenue Service.

He says nine out of ten tax filers should receive their refund within three weeks.

“Even after you file, even if it’s been less than three weeks, you can track the status of your return by using the ‘Where’s My Refund’ link,” Smith tells ABC News Radio.

Tax filers can also start checking the status of their returns on the IRS2GO phone app about 24 hours after electronically filing.

The “Where’s My Refund” link on the IRS website and app is typically updated only once a day so there’s no need to check more often than that.
