NFL? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1409753391304National Football League(NEW YORK) — After a brief and frustrating time with the New York Jets, the Carolina Panthers have signed wide receiver Stephen Hill to their practice squad.

The Jets drafted Hill with the 43rd overall pick in the 2012 Draft. They traded up in the second round to select the former Georgia Tech product, and even passed on Alshon Jeffrey, who has emerged as one of the top young receivers in the NFL.

Hill wound up disappointing the receiver-needy Jets. In two seasons with the team, Hill caught 45 passes for 594 yards with four touchdowns.

The team decided it was in the best interest of both sides to part ways.

Hill went unclaimed through waivers, so the Panthers, who are also shallow at the wide receiver position, decided to roll the dice and see if their coaches can turn him into the player some thought he could one day become.

Aside from tight end Greg Olsen, the team is thin at the receiver position. They have veterans Jason Avant and Jericho Cotchery. No other wide receiver on the team has a single NFL catch in their career.
