Peavy 5.2 innings of work and gave up just two hits, no runs, and struck out three batters.

In 20 starts for the Boston Red Sox this season, Peavy had a 4.72 ERA. In 12 regular season starts for the Giants, Peavy posted a 2.17 ERA.

RBIs by Joe Panik, Brandon Crawford, and Buster Posey were all the Giants needed on offense despite a pair of solo home runs hit by Nationals’ outfielder Bryce Harper and shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera in the 7th inning.

The Giants have won nine-straight postseason games, which is fifth longest streak in Major League Baseball history, and the most ever by a National League team.

Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval also extended his postseason hitting streak to a Giants-record 12 games.

Game 2 will be played on Saturday.
