The Washington Post reports that the New Jersey governor will make known his decision about his political plans for the future by late January, namely, whether he’ll seek the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.

According to the Post, it was former Florida Governor Jeb Bush’s announcement last month about establishing an exploratory committee ahead of a possible White House run that forced Christie’s hand.

The two Republicans share many of the same views — and donors — and Bush’s head start essentially means that Christie needs to get the ball rolling soon or else see his dreams of national office quickly dwindle.

The Post could not get anyone from Christie’s staff to comment about the report while one adviser argued that the governor’s decision isn’t “predicated on anything anyone else does.”

Just the same, Christie is picking up where he left off last election season by visiting states where he helped improve the chances of Republicans winning governorships in his role as chair of the Republican Governors Association.

The Super Bowl is Sunday, Feb. 1. If Dallas does make it that far, it’s probably a safe bet Christie will have a seat next to his buddy, team owner Jerry Jones.
