“Washington Post” Says Journalist Indicted in Iran, Case Referred to Revolutionary Court
Published at(WASHINGTON) — A Washington Post journalist was indicted and had his case referred to Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, the newspaper said on Wednesday.
While charges against Jason Rezaian have not been made public, the paper says that the move “appears to set the stage for a review before a possible trial.”
Rezaian was the Post‘s bureau chief in Tehran. The paper says he has been held in an Iranian prison for over five months and has not had access to a lawyer. He was charged on Dec. 6, but even he does not know the exact allegations he is accused of.
Martin Baron, executive editor of the Washington Post, said Wednesday that while the charges remain unknown, “we hope the referral of his case to a Revolutionary Court represents a step forward toward Jason’s prompt release.”
