Construction to slow traffic on I-15 near Pocatello

  Published at

POCATELLO — Northbound traffic on I-15 between Portneuf Area Exit 63 and 5th Street Exit 67 will be slowed starting Wednesday as traffic is diverted to a southbound lane.

The city of Pocatello is reminding motorists that Interstate traffic will now be two-way. This change is necessary to allow for construction of the South Valley Road, northbound I-15 bridge.

Two-way traffic and reduced speeds will continue for several months as the city’s contractor works to build the northbound bridge. City officials and law enforcement urge motorists traveling on I-15 through the South Valley Road construction area to use caution.

Once the northbound bridge is finished, work on the southbound I-15 bridge will begin. This phase of the project is expected to start in August, at which time all southbound I-15 traffic will be diverted to one of the northbound lanes. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

The South Valley Road project is sponsored by the city of Pocatello. Engineers from the Idaho Transportation Department District 5 office in Pocatello are overseeing construction of the project. For more information contact Pocatello City Engineer Deirdre Castillo at (208) 234-6587.
