iStock/Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) — The U.S. economy created 257,000 jobs in January, the Labor Department reported Friday.
The latest unemployment figures came in just above economists expectations last month, with even wage data showing a small increase of 2.2 percent campared to last year.
The unemployment rate ticked up to 5.7 percent, but this may be in part due to more people who have joined the labor force.
Job gains occurred mainly in health care, retail trade and construction.
November and December employment numbers were revised to show that 147,000 more jobs were added in those months than initially reported.
