The Copenhagen City Heart Study, which appeared in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, tracked more than one thousand healthy joggers and more than four hundred couch potatoes over 12 years.

Researchers found that “light to moderate” joggers had a lower death rate than non-joggers, but “fast-paced” joggers had the same risk of death as non-joggers.

The optimal amount of jogging was found to be one to two and a half hours per week, split into no more than three sessions.

Researchers found that moderate jogging is advantageous, but further strenuous activity may not be beneficial, and could perhaps even be harmful.
