Deputy US Marshal Fatally Shot in Line of Duty

John Roman/iStock/Thinkstock(BATON ROUGE, La.) — A deputy U.S. marshal was shot and killed in the line of duty on Tuesday in the Baton Rouge area while executing a warrant on a double homicide suspect.

According to an official with the U.S. Marshals, Deputy U.S. Marshal Josie Wells, 27, was fatally shot at about 11 a.m. CT Tuesday. The whole team came under fire, though it was unclear whether any other marshals were hit.

Wells was taken to an area hospital where he died.

The fugitive was also reported shot and was receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

An investigation into the shooting is being led by the FBI.
