That’s the finding of a Bankrate.com survey on retirement with 60 percent seeing themselves in an entirely different city or state. However, these dreams of retiring elsewhere fade as people grow older.

For instance, nearly three-quarters of people ages 18-to-29 would like to retire in another location. But only half of those in the 50-64 have the same goal.

Once they get past 65, only 20 percent of Americans have the energy to make a move.

Meanwhile, gender, income, education and ethnicity had little to do with a desire to move during retirement.

As for the features of a retirement location that appeal most to people, 40 percent said access to mountains, rivers and outdoor recreation, a quarter preferred a nearby beach, 18 percent want universities, museums and cultural activities nearby and 13 percent chose walkability.
