In the United Kingdom, the eclipse, expected to occur on March 20, will see the sun appear slightly less than completely obscured, because the “track of totality” passes between Iceland and the Outer Hebrides. Still, in the southeast of England, observers will see an 85-percent obscured sun, increasing to as much as 97 percent in northwest Scotland.

The society also notes that the next time an eclipse this significant will be seen in the U.K. is August 2026.

The BAS also reminds observers that looking at directly at the sun is dangerous. Instructions to safely observe the eclipse can be found at the society’s website.
