Raed Jaser and Chiheb Esseghaier were caught when Canadian authorities brought an undercover FBI agent to pose as a wealthy Arab-American willing to finance jihadi attacks. The agent recorded conversations where the pair discussed how to blow up a rail bridge.

Jurors found Esseghaier guilty on all counts, and Jaser on all but one, CBC News reports. They were unable to agree on a verdict on the final charge against Jaser.

Jaser’s lawyer argued in court that his client was a con man targeting a wealthy American, not a terrorist planning an attack.

The two men were arrested in April 2013. At the time, a statement from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that the plan was in the planning stage, but was not “imminent.”
