Despite word that the final Ebola patient in Liberia had been discharged from an Ebola treatment unit last week, signalling the coming end to the Ebola outbreak in that nation, the number of deaths caused by the disease continues to grow. The latest report showed 116 new cases confirmed in the week that ended March 8. That figure is lower than the 132 confirmed the week before.

“Although there has been no significant decline in overall case incidence since late January,” the WHO said Wednesday, “the recent contraction in the geographical distribution of cases is a positive development.” That news allows the international community to focus its response efforts on a smaller area.
