Fraternity Says It Will ‘Pursue All Legal Action’ Against “Rolling Stone”

GETTY 4615 UVACampus?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1428342399028iStock/Thinkstock(CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.) — Phi Kappa Psi fraternity says its plans to pursue “all available legal action” against Rolling Stone over what it said was “reckless reporting” of a University of Virginia rape story.

“The report by Columbia University’s School of Journalism demonstrates the reckless nature in which Rolling Stone researched and failed to verify facts in its article that erroneously accused Phi Kappa Psi of crimes its members did not commit,” Stephen Scipione, the president of the school’s chapter of the national fraternity, said in a statement released on Monday.

The announcement of their intention to bring the issue to court comes after representatives from Columbia University’s journalism school released a report about failures by the reporter and her editors to verify that the account of an alleged gang rape given by a UVA student.

The student’s story was a key part of a large narrative article that was published by the magazine in November. The magazine has now retracted the article and apologized.
