With the score tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning, Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts scored the go-ahead run on a fielding error from Orioles starter Wei-Yin Chen (0-1). Boston would proceed to tack on three more runs in the inning — all unearned.

Chen gave up three hits and five walks while striking out three across 4 1-3 innings of work.

Starting pitcher Justin Masterson (2-0) took the mound for Boston and allowed three hits, a walk and one earned run while striking out six in five innings.

Mookie Betts swiped his fourth base of the season in the first inning.
