Wall Street Marks Second Straight Week of Gains
Published at(NEW YORK) — A second straight week of gains for the Dow and the S&P 500.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed the session Friday at 18,057.65, up 98.92 from its open.
The Nasdaq was up by 21.41 to a close of 4,995.98, while the S&P 500 was up by 10.88 to 2,102.06.
The markets were helped on Friday by General Electrics, after the company announced it would be selling its long-struggling lending business. Shares of GE soared more than 10 percent on Friday to their highest price in almost two years.
Government health advisers are believed to have reservations about a proposal by Swedish Match to markets its smokeless pouches as less harmful than cigarettes and other tobacco products. The company wants the Food and Drug Administration to remove or revise warning labels.
