POCATELLO — An alleged “rooftop burglar” was taken into custody for breaking into several Pocatello businesses during the last few weeks, authorities said.

Michael Joseph Lowe, 33, was taken into custody late Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Pocatello Animal Shelter. Police spokesman Lt. Ian Nelson said it was unclear why Lowe was at the shelter at the time of the arrest. He was booked into the Bannock County Jail.

Police reports show Lowe was brought in for three instances of felony burglary that took place in late November and early December.

The most recent incident was at the Farmers Insurance building at 2500 S. Fifth Street. Between 10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, and 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, Lowe accessed the building via the rooftop and destroyed property in the building, police said.

Authorities released surveillance photos, which allegedly show Lowe inside the building after hours.

The two other burglary counts stem from recent break-ins at The Elwen Cottage at 334 N. Main Street and The Piano Gallery at 338 Yellowstone Ave.

“He was after anything of value or cash,” Nelson said.

In each case the businesses were accessed from the rooftop, police said.

Lowe appeared in court Friday, Dec. 18. He was charged with one count of felony burglary. Nelson said additional charges are pending.

His bond was set at $10,000, according to court documents.
