REXBURG – You can help a family of a woman killed in a car crash simply by buying a hamburger.

Trent Cichos, the owner of the McDonald’s on University Boulevard, has declared today Striffler Day in honor of the death of a local crossing guard.

All day Monday until midnight, Cichos is donating all the restaurant’s profits to the family of Kathy Striffler.

Striffler was killed in a Montana car crash Mar. 21. Her husband, Henry, and son Glenn survived the crash but are left with funeral and medical expenses.

So far the Monday morning turnout at McDonald’s was good, but Cichos expects more customers during lunch and dinner hours.

Cichos is a friend of the family and said their families have had a great relationship over the years.

“Kathy was a dear friend, and I would say anyone that knew Kathy would say (she) was a dear friend,” Cichos said.

Striffler was employed as a crossing guard for Madison School District 321 at Kennedy and Adams elementary schools and in food services at Adams for more than 13 years.

“She was just very well liked,” Cichos said.

He hopes the donations will help the family move forward through this difficult time.

“I hope that we can relieve some stress from them. I hope we can make the future a little easier for them financially,” Cichos said.

Cichos is grateful for the compassion the community has shown and hopes they will continue to help the Striffler family.

“I think (this event) helps me realize how generous people in the community are. We are lucky to be in a community that will come together during a very difficult time.” Cichos said.
