RIGBY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a calf that was unlawfully killed.

The animal, valued at $1,500, belonged to Ririe-based Foster Land & Cattle Co. It was found dead in a field in the Labelle area near 4228 E. 500 North in Rigby on Friday, May 13.

It was later discovered the calf had a bullet wound in the upper shoulder area.

“Evidence in regards to the type of firearm used was discovered,” General Manager of Foster Land & Cattle Dave Chapel told EastIdahoNews.com “We were able to find the bullet within the calf and will be turning that over to investigators.”

Jefferson County Detective Sam Tower confirmed that the sheriff’s office was contacted and is investigating the case.

“We are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible.” Chapple said.
