Speed changes coming to Pocatello School Zones

The following is a news release from the city of Pocatello.
POCATELLO — A series of changes are coming to school zones around Pocatello.
Recently, Street Operations Department crews installed flashing signals on roads in five school zones in the city. Starting Monday, October 10 the streets equipped with the signals, will see the 20 miles per hour (mph) speed limit in place “when flashing.” The zones that feature the flashing signals are:
- Tendoy Elementary on Jefferson Avenue
- Edahow Elementary on Pocatello Creek Road
- Indian Hills Elementary on Bannock Highway and Cheyenne Avenue
- Lewis and Clark Elementary on Alameda Road
- Wilcox Elementary on Hawthorne Road
Another change to coming school zones will see the 20 mph speed limit in effect from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Previously, the 20 mph requirement was in place from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The time change will go into effect as signage is replaced.
“We’ve worked with Pocatello/Chubbuck School District #25 and the Pocatello Police Department, and both groups are supportive of the modifications,” said Tom Kirkman, Street Operations Superintendent. “The changes will improve traffic flow through historically congested areas without impacting safety.”
