Tree falls on Idaho Falls home, dozens of other wind-related incidents reported

IDAHO FALLS — A large tree blew over and fell onto a home on Lincoln Rd. Wednesday evening.

Large gusts of wind caused the tree to become uprooted, resulting in it landing on the home and three vehicles.

“My mom was bringing groceries in when she heard the crack and ran for the garage,” Richard Oberg tells EastIdahoNews.com. “There are a few dents in the smaller car and only scratch on the pickup and food truck.”

Oberg says there is a dent in the metal roof of the house but “thankfully everyone is fine.”

This incident is one of dozens reported across east Idaho since wind gusts picked up around noon.

The Idaho Transportation Department closed a section of Interstate 15 between Idaho Falls and Roberts for a few hours due to blowing dust and reduced visibility.

Idaho Highway 32 remains closed between Ashton and Tetonia due to high winds, blowing dust and reduced visibility.

Multiple trees, light posts and other items were blown over as a result of the high winds.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind advisory that remains in effect until 9 p.m. in Idaho Falls, Rexburg and Pocatello. Strong and gusty winds will make driving difficult for high profile vehicles and areas of blowing dust may limit visibility for motorists.

Southwest winds of 30 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are occurring. Gusts of between 80 and 100 mph are being reported in some areas.
