IDAHO FALLS — Prosecutors have dismissed state felony and misdemeanor charges against a pair of local residents in place of federal charges that have been filed against them.

Nicholas Olsen, of Ammon, and Chanel Bistodeau, of Blackfoot, were arrested April 15 following a U.S. Marshals manhunt that ended at an Idaho Falls hotel.

They were originally charged with multiple crimes from two counties. In the Bingham County case, Olsen and Bistodeau faced felony charges of drug trafficking, possession of a control substance, and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest from a Bingham County case filed on March 11.

In Bonneville County, Olsen and Bistodeau faced felony charges of drug trafficking, possession of a control substance, possession of a firearm and misdemeanor charges of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and unlawful entry stemming from the arrest.

But both Bingham County Prosecuting Attorney Cleve Colson and Bonneville County Prosecuting Attorney Daniel R. Clark said all those charges have now been dropped after the pair was recently indicted by a federal grand jury.

“Bonneville County charges will become part of the federal prosecution either with amended charges in federal court or for use as historical evidence in the crime currently charged,” Clark told EastIdahoNews.com.

The grand jury indicted the pair on a charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance stemming from the Bingham County case.

The case was moved to federal court because Olsen is on federal probation. Olsen had a previous run-in with local and federal authorities in East Idaho. He was arrested in November 2015 after he fled from Ucon Police in Bonneville County.

Olsen has a jury trial scheduled in federal court in July. He was released on federal probation in 2017.

Bistodeau is awaiting sentencing in Bingham County on a 2016 felony drug possession charge, after which she will be turned over to federal authorities.
