UCON — A man who had been running from law enforcement, was taken into custody early Wednesday, Nov. 18, near 55th E. and 105th N. in Bonneville County.

Nicholas L. Olsen, 32, was wanted on a federal probation violation and drug warrants, Bonneville County Sheriff Sgt. Bryan Lovell told EastIdahoNews.com. Local officers and US Marshals had been on the lookout for Olsen for several days. He was considered armed and dangerous.

Lovell said a Ucon Police Department officer spotted a vehicle believed to be used by Olsen the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 17. While attempting to stop the vehicle, police said Olsen fled eastbound on 105th N. in Ucon to the area of 55th E. He crashed through a fence, into a field and eventually into a canal.

Deputies said Olsen and another passenger fled on foot. Officers searched the area throughout the night, but were unable to locate the occupants.

Lovell confirmed a reverse 911 call was issued to residents about the fugitive.

Around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, deputies said Olsen knocked on a door near 113th N. and 65th E. asking for help because his vehicle had broken down. The resident contacted police and advised the resident that they were in route to assist him.

Upon hearing that information, police said Olsen fled on foot. Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies and Idaho Falls police officers set up a perimeter in the area.

Around 8:20 a.m., Olsen was located by officers running in a canal near 55th E. and 105th N. He was taken into custody and was booked into jail on a federal probation violation and a misdemeanor Bonneville County warrant.

The Idaho Criminal Repository indicates Olsen went to prison for delivery and possession of a controlled substance in 2010. He was discharged in 2014, according to the Idaho Department of Corrections.

Authorities are still looking for the other passenger.
