IDAHO FALLS — The mother of a child involved in a crash Monday afternoon is issuing a stern reminder to teenage drivers and passengers: buckle up.

Kristy Kirkpatrick says her son, his girlfriend and three other friends were in a GMC Yukon around 1 p.m. when they approached an intersection on the 1600 block of Parkwood St. in Idaho Falls.

“They collided with a white truck coming the other direction. It hit them really hard and rolled the truck that the kids were in,” Kirkpatrick tells EastIdahoNews.com. “None of the teenagers were wearing seat belts and fortunately the accident happened at 20 miles an hour.”

Idaho Falls Police and Idaho Falls Ambulance were called to the scene but everyone involved received only minor injuries, according to Kirkpatrick.

Police continue to investigate the crash and Kirkpatrick hopes this serves as a reminder to all drivers.

“This was in a residential neighborhood and proves an accident can happen at any speed,” Kirkpatrick says. “We are very blessed that all of our children got out of it ok. All kids need to remember to wear their damn seat belts.”
