Open fishing on parts of the Big Lost River

  Published at

ARCO — The Idaho Department of Fish and Game has removed all bag, possession and size limits for fish on parts of the Big Lost River until Aug. 31.

Officials say due to high water this spring, an unknown number of fish moved below the Moore Diversion on the Big Lost River. As the runoff subsides it is likely that part of the river will go dry, as it does most years.

When that happens all the fish below the Moore Diversion will be stranded and die. As such, Fish and Game is encouraging anglers to harvest the fish.

In that area — fish may be taken by any method except for firearms, explosives, chemicals, prohibited bait or electric current.

A valid Idaho Fishing license also is required to salvage fish, according to Idaho Code.
