Two people dead after weekend crash near Oakley

OAKLEY — Idaho State Police are investigating a single vehicle, double fatality crash south of Oakley on Saturday.

The accident occurred at about 7:10 a.m. on Birch Creek Road.

Police reports show Burly residents Dakota Glenn Cantu, 25, and Jared Anthony Taylor, 21, and Oakley residents William Paden Wells, 20, and Tyrell Jakob Smith, 21, were northbound on Birch Creek Road in a maroon 2005 Dodge 1500 pickup.

While negotiating a curve in the roadway, the truck veered off the right side of the roadway and rolled. Cantu, Taylor, and Wells were ejected from the vehicle, according to a news release.

Cantu and Wells succumbed to their injuries at scene of the crash.

Taylor and Smith were transported by air ambulance to the Portneuf Regional Medical Center in Pocatello.

The Idaho State Journal reports Taylor was listed in critical but stable condition, and Smith was listed in stable condition as of Sunday evening, according to a hospital spokesperson.

No occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

It is unknown who was driving the vehicle at this time. Birch Creek Road was closed for approximately five hours.
