Moose abuse: Fish & Game searching for person who used moose as target practice

REXBURG — The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is searching for an individual accused of abusing a young moose by shooting its head full of arrows.
On Wednesday, Fish and Game officers discovered a one-year-old bull moose with an arrow sticking out of its head near the Teton Lakes Golf Course, outside of Rexburg, local Fish and Game spokesman Greg Losinski said.
Upon closer examination of the animal, it was discovered multiple broad-head arrows had been fired into the moose’s head fairly recently.
“It appears someone was using it for target practice,” Losinski said. “We are attributing this less to a hunting incident and more to someone that was abusing wildlife.”
The moose hunting season along the Teton River ended on Nov. 23 — making it illegal to hunt moose in that area.
Officers were able to sedate the moose, removed the arrow, and treat several head wounds. The moose was released on site, because his chances of survival were best there, Losinski told EastIdahoNews.com.
Conservation officers are now seeking the public’s assistance in determining who was responsible for this abuse.
