Fundraiser planned for family of father killed in avalanche

IDAHO FALLS — The Colorado Avalanche Information Center reports an average of 27 avalanche deaths occurred over the last 10 winters in the United States.

Last week, 36 year-old Adam Andersen of Idaho Falls sadly became part of that statistic. According to friends and family, Adam was almost universally loved.

When asked how he wanted people to remember his friend, Adam’s longtime best friend, Ryan Jensen, said that above all, Adam was fun.

“Whether it was, riding dirt bikes or four-wheelers, or playing basketball, playing golf, no matter what it was, you had a good time with Adam,” Jensen said.

The day he died, Adam was out doing just that – having a good time.

Adam and some friends were snowmobiling in the backcountry of the Centennial Mountains on Jan. 10 when an avalanche on Mt. Jefferson swept Adam under the snow.

The next morning, search and rescue crews found Adam’s body. Ryan says tons of Adam’s friends and family came out to look for him.

“That was the type of response that…a very liked person would get,” said Jensen. “Not just your run of the mill person.”

Adam leaves behind his wife, Summer, and their three kids.

“We’ve been doing everything we can to just get them through this hard time,” said family friend Adelle Conder.

Conder has organized a fundraiser for the family at the Ammon Chick-fil-A Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Fifteen percent of whatever you buy will go straight to the Andersen family.

“I was just like, there’s something else that we can do in this community, because I’ve had a lot of people reach out to ask what we can do, and this community has been so great trying to help out Summer,” Conder said.

Jensen hopes the community will continue to be that supportive. He said Summer was “the love of Adam’s life,” and that nobody is more deserving of help.
