The following is a news release from Brigham Young University-Idaho.

REXBURG — The 5 Browns will perform a concert on five Steinway grand pianos Friday, February 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg.

The 5 Browns are veterans in bringing classical music to a newer, younger audience. Upon their signing with Sony, they have shown the world that ensemble piano can actually be a well-melded symphony of pianos.

Multiple pianos is not a new concept. The 5 Browns have brought back the old tradition of monster concerts from generations past, where such notables as Chopin and Liszt participated, playing the “hits” of their day.

Hundreds of years later, these siblings are picking up where the greats left off, by having some of the most notable, popular and awe-inspiring works brought to light in a new way with a new sound, sometimes known as the giant symphonic piano.

The 5 Browns are delivering on their dream to wake up classical music by introducing it to the widest, largest and most excited audience they can find. Whether performing individually or together in various combinations from duo to complex five-piano arrangements, they reveal a deep connection to the intent of their material while bringing a fresh energy and dynamic character to the color and tonal spectrum of their sound.

The 5 Browns – Ryan, Melody, Gregory, Deondra and Desirae – all attended New York’s Juilliard School. In fact, they became the first family of five siblings ever accepted simultaneously.

The quintet enjoyed their first wave of critical attention in February 2002 when People magazine dubbed them the “Fab Five” at about the same time they were featured on “Oprah” and “60 Minutes.”

The 5 Browns have released three CDs that each went to No. 1 on Billboard Magazine’s Classical Album Chart.

The New York Post has proclaimed, “One family, five pianos and 50 fingers add up to the biggest classical music sensation in years.…When these kids do Rachmaninoff, they’ll make you forget about Marshall amps.”

In addition to touring, The 5 Browns are published writers. Their book, “Life Between the Keys,” a lighthearted collection of personal stories, was published by Phoenix Books in March 2009.

Tickets for the Center Stage Performing Arts Series event are $18 for the general public and $10 for BYU-Idaho students. They can be purchased at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office, by calling 208-496-3170, or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.
